Story
In October last year my dear twin brother John died of cancer. John was a great family man and a successful lawyer but he was also a bon viveur who made few compromises when it came to having a good time. He was a source of strength and inspiration to me throughout our 60 years together in this world, not least of all in his last year when his courage, humour and indomitable spirit were awesome.
One of the last things John said to me was "you know Bill, the next 10 years of your life will be the best you have left, make sure you live them well". So I'm following his instructions and going to Mexico next month to cycle 200km through the Yucatán Peninsula. I am doing this with a fantastic fundraising group, 'the Truants' , to raise money for three great charities in John's memory. I'm not going to pretend that this is the most arduous task I've ever undertaken, although at my age everything hurts most of the time, so it won't be without pain and it will be very hot! But as John instructed, I aim to enjoy it.
I am raising money for three great charities -Teenage Cancer Trust, ChildLine and Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy - all of which have a deep significance for me and my twin. If you are able to make a contribution I (and John) would be truly grateful.
All of the costs associated with this trip I am paying personally, so every single penny that you donate goes straight to these fantastic charities.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this. John was a great guy and I miss him every day. I know he'll be there with me in spirit as I pedal my way through Mexico.
Much love,
Bill.
