The ladies (and our manager Mark) at Birdcage Vintage in Skipton are joining forces with local knitting groups and enthusiasts to participate in a 24 hour Knitathon to raise money for Behind Closed Doors - a Yorkshire based charity which supports those who are/have been affected by domestic abuse. 

The charity works to provide support for both men and women who are affected by verbal, emotional, sexual, economical and physical abuse. 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men endure this painful and horrific treatment at least once in their lives. They are often manipulated into feeling like they cannot leave the situation and frequently lack self-confidence and self-esteem. 

Statistics show that an average 35 assaults will take place before the police are called. It takes real strength to admit that there's a problem. Your money will help provide sufferers with someone to talk to who understands; a friendly shoulder to lean on when they may feel there is nowhere they can turn to. Someone can offer support and advice on how to cope and deal with it in order to get back on their feet. It will also go towards helping to expand the charity, training more volunteers and care-workers to provide support to those who need it most.
