Blair's Story
I was born on 29th September 2009 and soon after diagnosed with Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome (CCHS), which means that I need support from a ventilator to help me breath, and Hirschsprung's disease which is often associated with CCHS, which arises when certain nerve cells in the gut (called ganglion cells) fail to develop and mature correctly. The result is a section of bowel that is essentially paralyzed.) Following two operations this has now been surgically corrected.
I was in Yorkhill for a long-time after I was born, for a while I would come home during the day and then started getting some overnight stays and was delighted when I was finally discharged in the summer of 2010.
Since then I have grown lots and am now doing all the things you would expect. In August 2014 I started at Broomhill School and I am loving working hard and playing all my new friends. I love playing with my brothers, cousins and friends and generally always have a big smile on my face :-)
I am still a regular at Yorkhill, mostly for outpatient appointments (thankfully says Mum) but without the dedication and support of all the staff there I would not be the little boy I am today.
Everyone at Yorkhill were amazing when I was an in-patient and still provide lots of support to me and my family. We have also met lots of really amazing kids and families during our time at Yorkhill and so want to raise funds to say thank you and to help all the other babies and boys and girls who need to spend time at Yorkhill, especially the other kids that need ventilators when they finally go home, like me.

Glasgow 2014 Slim
Marina Turner and Shonagh MacVicar from Glasgow 2014 have decided to do a sponsored slim, and very kindly offered to donate the funds raised to Yorkhill.
Message from Marina "Thanks in advance for your support because I just know you will all be VERY generous with your donations and loads of encouragement – trust me, I’m going to need it! I’m giving myself 8 weeks - which takes us to the 12 August – it’s not called the Glorious Twelfth for nothing!"
Message from Shonagh “As many of you know I have supported Yorkhill Children's Foundation for a while (indeed we raised a few quid on the guess Baby MacVicar's first name and weight). Particularly, I wanted to support Neil, his family and the wee smile, Blair. If any of you have met him, you'll know that your heart just melts with his hearty grin (that's Blair not Neil.....).”
A Big thanks to Marina & Shonagh, everyone who is supporting them and sponsoring them.
Crofthead Holiday Park, Ayr
Long supporters of Yorkhill, family friends at Crofthead are hosting two events in support of Yorkhill this summer. The first is a family fun day on 22 July and the second is a Race Night on 20August in Ayr Rugby Club (tickets are still available; please contact me for more details). In addition, Lewis McCormack and his friend recently raised £130 from making and selling benches and selling football raffle tickets, a special big thank you to them.
Our event, with Clisham Keel at The Rock, Glasgow on 11 Feb 2011 was a great success, and thanks to the band donating their fee and all the support for the fantastic raffle we raised over £1500. So a huge thanks to everyone for their continued support.
Thanks to everyone who supported our Family Fundraiser on 25th September 2010, Blair certainly enjoyed his first disco! and I think everyone else did too!
Our first fundraiser, 'Brenda Sings for Blair' held on 13th August 2010 was possible thanks to all the help and support of many people, but especially May Mullen, a fantastic night was had by all and a huge amount of money was raised.
Thanks to everyone who has supported us so far ....
