Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. We at the Army Training Regiment (Winchester) have entered a four man team into the Marathon des Sables (MdS) taking place in April 2016. The event was described by the Discovery Channel as ‘The Toughest Footrace in the World’ (check it out at www.marathondessables.co.uk). It requires the team to complete six desert marathons in six days across the Sahara desert, carrying all their own food and kit.
Why are we doing this?
We have two aims:
1 To raise awareness and money for the Armed Forces Para Snowsports Team (AFPST).
AFPST is a truly inspiring service charity that desperately needs more funding to continue to transform the lives of our wounded, injured and sick service men, women and veterans.
It provides the opportunity for those that have given so much to compete in adaptive snow sports. Some of the team reach Paralympic level, others just need the team ethos and competitive adrenaline rush that their injury or condition often prevents.
Check out the AFPST website http://www.csdst.co.uk/ to discover more about this brilliant all volunteer charity. Learn about the recovery pathways that it is forging with a bunch of truly inspiring athletes.
2 To inspire others to challenge themselves, by doing extraordinary things to raise awareness and money for charitable causes.
As a Regiment, our objective is to not only complete the race but push for a competitive finish. We hope that through this example (by frankly, some quite old men) that others will gain the confidence to set big goals and chase them in the aid of great causes.

Whatever you or your organisation can afford to give will really make a huge difference and justify the most unpleasant pre-event training programme that you can possibly imagine!
