Story
In the final days of her life our beloved colleague Rosie requested that a charity be set up in her memory focusing on research into secondary breast cancer, for which there is currently no cure.
Professor Tutt’s work focuses on triple negative breast cancer, a particularly aggressive form of the disease that 7,500 women in the UK are diagnosed with every year. Rosie was among them.
Triple negative breast cancer lacks some of the proteins found in hormone positive breast cancers. It disproportionately affects younger women and has lower survival rates. So far, the disease has no targeted treatments to prevent it returning.
Professor Tutt is trying to change this. He is working to develop new drugs that prevent triple negative breast cancer from returning and potentially spreading to the secondary stage.
