“We have been fortunate enough to benefit in life and love. The greatest gifts we can receive are your continued friendship and presence at our wedding. However, if you are considering a gift, we encourage you to commemorate our wedding with a donation to the Kamili Organisation Mental Health Centre, Nairobi” Love from, Ellie and Pete.
Please read the following to find out what the charity does and where the money will go:
Kamili Organisation was set up in 2009 to take over two successful mental health clinics running in Lower Kabete and Kangemi, Nairobi. The two clinics currently have in excess of 2100 patients, with numbers increasing on a monthly basis. The Organisation’s mission is to provide equal access to services and offer affordable care, as well as improving the quality of life of those suffering from mental illness in Kenya. The objectives of both these clinics is to increase awareness in local communities on mental health issues, and in particular to identify the symptoms and provide adequate treatment for mental health issues relating to epilepsy, schizophrenia and depression; providing community support networks for sufferers and their families; maintaining the existing micro finance income-generating loan scheme, and to establish a mobile monthly clinic allowing local residents to access these essential services.
We would like the money to be raised to train more general nurses all over Kenya to be Mental Health nurses. Their training fees are about 600GBP each. Three nurses have already gone through this process and are due to return to their places of work in Kapsabet, Kakamega and Taveta to start clinics with the Kamili model in September. If the government agrees, the fourth will be a Kamili nurse in the three Nairobi clinics.
