We work with homeless and hospice charities to support their construction projects

Story

Thank you for visiting our just giving page.

This year, the Wheels of Steel team are back and have signed up to the biggest challenge of their lives, from Paris to Nice

We may be the fifth richest country in the world but since
2010, homelessness in England has increased by over 55% and the average life expectancy of a homeless person is just 47.

Formed in 2013 to raise money for CRASH The CGL Cycling Team, Wheels of Steel, are taking to the road again to try and raise more funds for the great work this charity carries out to not only provide shelter for the homeless but create an environment and support structure to enable those in need to rebuild their lives.

Not put off by cycling London to Brighton and London to
Paris the CGL WOS’ERS continue their quest by cycling from Paris to Nice. Like the professionals we will not be riding the whole way (900km) but unlike the professionals we are neither professional or fit to ride the distance (520 km) over four days. As part of our punishment (oops!) training, the team are also riding in the Tour de Yorkshire Sportive on 1st May and so it may be wise to keep clear between Scarborough and Pickering to avoid being delayed by ambulance, paramedics and other medical support vehicles!!!!

If we survive and remain undeterred 10 riders from CGL
supported by AC Transport and MOTIS will set off on May 12th from The Eiffel Tower with the aim to reach Promenade des Anglais in Nice four days later.

Our ride is completely supported by the riders themselves, their families (AC Transport) and CGL so that all proceeds we raise will go to CRASH.

We appreciate the huge support we have received in the past and so if you are unable to support us this time all we would ask is if you would like to send us messages of support or let your friends and colleagues know about the amazing work CRASH carries out and, if possible,  make a donation however small to our fund raising page.

CGL strongly believes in the cause and here’s why:

It can be as little as 12 months from a significant life event to losing everything and arriving on the street.

CRASH are an amazing and much needed charity. They are the construction industry’s charity, addressing the needs of homelessness by harnessing the skills, products and goodwill of the construction and property industry to improve hostels, day centres, night shelters, training centres and move-on accommodation, for front-line homelessness agencies who work directly with homeless people. The result of this generosity and practical sharing of materials and skills means that much needed renovation and development can be carried out to a far higher standard than would otherwise be possible, providing a safe and welcoming refuge for people in need.

CRASH channel 100% of all donations received from fundraising events directly into helping projects that support individuals damaged by the experiences of homelessness in an attempt to help them reconstruct their lives. You can find out more about the work they do at: Please visit the CRASH website www.crash.org.uk to see examples of the projects they fund and support.

What next? Using this site you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed onto CRASH. Just Giving will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.
