Story
We're walking an overnight marathon in aid of breast cancer causes and we'd love your support to spur us on!
We are a group of school friends from St Mary's Calne (leavers 1997) who learnt the harsh realities of cancer at a young age when one of our classmates, Katie, tragically succumbed to leukaemia in our sixth form. Katie was one of three girls who we lost to cancer whilst at school. The deaths of Katie, Elinor and Mel affected the whole school and they left a legacy of courage and dignity that inspired us all.
Ten years later another of our year, Shara, who will be walking the marathon, was diagnosed with grade 3 breast cancer. Thanks to the incredible progress of breast cancer treatment as well as excellent medical care and the support of an amazing husband, family and group of friends Shara has made a complete recovery and gone on to have a young family.
As we approach the ten year anniversary of Shara's diagnosis and the twenty year anniversary of Katie's death we're taking on this challenge to raise money for new treatments and support networks that can make such a difference to those fighting this increasingly prevalent disease.
Twelve of our school year and a couple of honorary members are currently walking their way fit around the country ready to meet at Clapham Common on Saturday 14th May for the big event, a 26.2 mile midnight marathon through London. Many of our other school friends are forming a fabulous support group to keep us going through the small hours.
We'd be so grateful if you could sponsor us to help all those affected by breast cancer. We all know women - and men - affected by this disease and the more money we can raise the better treatment, support and hope for a bright future we will be able to give these people.
