So, as some of you know I was until recently considered Morbidly Obese. Not the nicest of labels to put on someone for sure. You will also know that I wasn't always fat but circumstances prevailed to make it so that I ate and drank, did no exercise and was leading my life down a very uncertain future. However, in March of this year I was lucky enough to undergo Bariatric Surgery. To say that this surgery has given me a new lease of life would be an understatement. I am now much more active, healthier positive and more complete person than I have been in many years.

Being fat is not a nice thing. Comfort eating is not a nice thing, being excluded because of size is not a nice thing and being labeled as lazy or stupid just because you carry a few extra pounds is an awful thing to have to experience. It is bad enough for an adult so imagine how damaging it can be for a child but in this day and age, it is what happens. Being "fat-ist" for want of a better word is still allowed in a world where if you even hint at racism or sexual orientation you are chastised. I am afraid the world needs to wake up and see it as an issue that needs to be resolved not poke fun at it or hate it.

Being in the fortunate position that I am now in, I can help to effect change in the way people think. As many of you know, I blog on www.worldsbiggestfridgemagnet.com and on www.huffingtonpost.com and I try to get my thoughts and feelings out to the world that way. I have also been lucky enough to have my story covered by local TV and Radio and although it was something I never thought I would do (being the anxious wallflower that I am) I am willing to make a fool of myself if it gets the message out there and peoples lives improve.

I feel that combining something that I really do enjoy with something really worthwhile is the perfect way to help. It was only a few months ago that I first announced that I would attempt a walk along the Ridgeway and that I would walk it for charity. To me, deciding to do something like that knowing how much I enjoyed my walking and being out in the countryside was a no brainer. I just had to be certain that I could do it and not let anyone down. I am now more sure than ever that by next year I shall be in the best shape I have been for many years and so much put that to good use and do the walk and raise the money.

Walking the Ridgeway was an obvious choice because I live at its base in a small historical town called Wantage, so without further delay, the trigger has been pulled and I now find myself walking from Ivinghoe Beacon (the Eastern end of the Ridgeway) to West Kennet (Western end) between Sunday the 12th of June and Friday the 17th of June. On this stretch I plan to walk 15 approximately miles each day for the first 5 days then the final 11 on the last when I reach West Kennet which is only about 30 miles away from home. This means that I shall be home for the evening of the 17th and will soaking in a bath with some Radox after my adventure having taken me 6 days in total.

Now in order for this to be a success I shall not only need help with the fundraising but I shall also need help with the logistics of the walking so if anyone has any ideas I am more than happy to hear them and if anyone has any desire to come along and join me you are more than welcome to leave the comforts of home far behind as you brave the wilds of the British countryside ;-)
