In memory of Cameron Caves

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This page is in memory of our precious beautiful brave baby boy Cameron who fought for every heartbeat- and was able to do so thanks to the amazing care he received from the Evelina Children's Hospital.

Cameron came through so much in his short life- overcoming open heart surgeries time and time again, including two in just one day, being the first person in the UK to have a particular open heart surgery (after it has been trialled only 24 times worldwide- in Boston and Milan), and even beating the rare and deadly endocarditis- being the first baby in the world with such a complex heart condition to do so. We were told on many occasions to expect the worse and each time Cameron battled through and overcame every obstacle in his way.

Cameron was not expected to survive his open heart surgeries however despite even suffering a massive stroke leaving him paralysed on one side, he always battled through in true Cameron style making miraculous recoveries and defying all the odds to come home with us, where he was always at his happiest- spending time at home with his brother and sister- days which were filled with happiness, love, laughter, smiles and giggles.

Following eight months of open heart surgeries, other surgeries, medical procedures, numerous transfusions and spending the majority of his life in intensive care, Cameron's heart was the best the best it had ever been and for the first time we were all able to relax slightly, knowing that Cameron should now be able to grow big enough and have enough time clear of endocarditis to be accepted onto the heart transplant list.

Devastatingly however, Cameron's life was then cruelly snatched away from him, just as it was really beginning, by the failings of our local hospital. Instead of focusing his memory on their failings however, we would rather focus on the amazing work of the Evelina Children's Hospital that gave us almost nine special months with our special baby boy and our amazing boy himself.

Cameron touched the world in a way no other can, leaving not only wonderful memories but lasting imprints both in our hearts and also in the medical world, teaching world leading experts new things.

We hope that Cameron's legacy will save others in the future and feel so truly privileged to have had Cameron in our lives.

The Evelina Children's Hospital played a huge role in Cameron's life- in fact he spent most of his life there.  We would like to raise money to thank those involved in his care and allow them to continue with the amazing work that they do- from his surgeon Professor David Anderson who saved his life time and time again, to his Consultant Cardiologist Gareth Morgan who always believed in him and the nurses, doctors and cardiologists who all formed part of Team Cameron.
