Story
It's time for my annual fundraising for my chosen charity, Prostaid.
This years challenge is a little different from the last couple of years but in no way less demanding both physically and mentally.
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is a walking challenge route with the circuit normally starting and ending at Horton-in-Ribblesdale, visiting the three highest peaks in Yorkshire:
Pen-y-Ghent (691m), Whernside (728m), and Ingleborough (723m) - in that order. The total distance walked is 37.5km (23.5 miles), with the aim of completing in less than 12 hours.
This is a long and demanding walk, with a total climb of some 5,200ft. By tradition, the walk must be completed within 12 hours for me to be able to join the "Three Peaks of Yorkshire Club".
Whilst the walking is generally pretty good it is very long for a single day's hike. It also includes three big climbs totalling 1586m (5202ft) of ascent with the last climb up onto Ingleborough - when the legs are tired and the spirit is weak - being particularly steep.
So this years challenge is on, the date is booked, June 11th 2016.
