Story

Sofia Aujo is 26 years old, lives in Uganda and was raised by her grandmother after becoming an orphan. Sofia had a disability and stayed at the Budaka Cheshire Home run by local nuns.  FOAG supports Budaka by paying for operations for the children. Sofia was successfully operated on and stayed at Budaka, attending a local school. It was at the home where Sofia was inspired to study nursing by Sister Leah, Head of the home and a qualified nurse.

Sofia has already completed 2 years of her 4 year course, she is dedicated and motivated. I have personally supported her so far and she is a very good communicator sending me updates. For her 3rd year studies starting in September, the cost will be £500 and between me and my friend we are looking to raise £250 each by doing the Bridgnorth Walk for the 3rd year in succession.

As a 9 year old child having her leg operation, Sofia had a dream:
"My dream has been to be a medical worker/doctor from the time I had an operation on my leg when I was 9 years old from Kumi Hospital in Eastern Uganda, I was so inspired by the way the nurses took good care of me, I said I must become one in the future so that I can help others"

Please sponsor me to help Sofia - Thank you

The Farmers Overseas Action Group, FOAG, is an independent charity whose mission is to aid social and economic development in Uganda’s rural communities. FOAG provides support to 12 projects in four key sectors; health, education, economic empowerment and the environment, with the overall goal of alleviating poverty. FOAG concentrates on small scale constructive action for community development through the funding of innovative projects that are often too small for the objectives of larger international charities. FOAG was founded in 1981 by a nucleus of Worcestershire farming families to practically address the needs of Uganda’s agricultural development. The core group has expanded over the years and is now supported by an ever increasing number of Associate Members and organisations. FOAG works in a direct and personal way and ensures that all projects are monitored on a regular basis. (www.foag.co.uk)
