David and I are extremely grateful to Professor Peter Johnson, the chief clinician of Cancer Research UK, at Southampton University, for the treatment John has had, so I am limbering up my 74 year-old legs in order to do a big bike ride (my last I guess) to raise more funds for the new research centre. David is planning to take the car and meet up with me each night, which means I can travel light, so I am very grateful for his support.

The University of Southampton leads the UK in cancer immunology research, which is already in clinical trials making a world of difference to people with cancer.  

This major campaign will fund the first dedicated cancer immunology centre in the UK. Connected to leading institutions worldwide, this cutting-edge research hub will enable the interdisciplinary teams to expand clinical trials, explore new areas and develop life-saving drugs. 

David and I have met some of the brilliant young research staff, who are all enormously enthusiastic about their work and eager to try to explain it in terms we can (almost) understand.  If you sponsor me it will help to make their new Centre a reality.

 The research happening at the University of Southampton is truly world-leading, and is bringing hope to patients, and their families, who have been given a second chance at a full life thanks to immunotherapy treatments that have been developed in Southampton.
