The mountain is 4,100 metres high and will take us two days to reach the summit. Physical exertion aside, we will be challenged by extremes of temperatures from hot humid jungle to sub zero on the summit. Blisters, altitude sickness, physical exhaustion and lack of sleep awaits us! Clearly a huge challenge! so why are we doing it?

The main reason is to raise some much needed funds for the International Aid for the Protection and Welfare of Animals (IAPWA), which provides a vital lifeline for animals in need around the world. 

IAPWA is helping many animals in desperate need of veterinary care across the globe, including:

• Providing essential emergency veterinary care for dogs across Sabah, Borneo including infectious disease, road traffic accidents, fractures and wound management cases. 
• Replaced the previously used inhumane methods of population control throughout Sabah, preventing thousands of dogs from suffering.
• Providing infection control and prevention, education and rehoming programs for displaced dogs throughout Sabah. 
• Assisting with changes in legislation to prohibit the consumption of dog and cat meat, make animal fights illegal and increase penalties for animal cruelty throughout Sabah.
• Assisting a sanctuary in Malaysia to enrich the lives of many rescued sun bears.
• Providing essential veterinary care through a project in Tanzania following extreme flooding, which left many animals in a desperate state needing emergency intensive care.
• Providing assistance to a neutering and rabies vaccination programme in India.
