Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Heads up! I'm about to undergo a transformation, for a good cause. I am going to shave my head  of its unruly locks to raise funds for OCHRE the oesophageal cancer charity and to raise awareness of the symptoms.

Oesophageal cancer has very often already spread by the time of diagnosis, and the survival rates for oesophageal cancer are still very low - 6% of patients survive 5 years.  Please visit OCHRE's website http://www.ochrecharity.org.uk/ - knowing the signs to look for could save a loved one's life.

My Aunt Jessie did not survive oesophageal cancer, dying at just 35, leaving a husband and my 3 year old cousin.

My friend Fiona has been recently diagnosed, with spread to the aortic lymph nodes.  She is fighting it with all her might.  Cancer treatment has come so far in 30 years - let her be one of the 6%!

These two ladies are the inspiration for this campaign.

About the charity

Ochre's main aim is to promote awareness of oesophageal cancer to the public, politicians and professionals by holding meetings, functions, talks and courses, and by establishing a website and distributing leaflets. They also provide funding for equipment for early diagnosis and staging of the tumour prior to treatment and for curative and palliative treatment.
