I have had an incredible opportunity to learn about the criminal justice system alongside category A prisoners for six weeks. I have met some fantastic individuals whilst completing this module who are unaware of their own educational capabilities. Despite serving lengthy sentences, the inside students are rarely given the opportunity to engage in educational programmes unless they are in their final seven years of their sentence.

The inside students who have taken this module alongside me have become more confident in their abilities; they have been inspired to continue their education and make their sentence worthwhile. However, due to restrictions and a lack of funding it is unlikely they will be able to do this. Education is vital to rehabilitation and aids prisoners in preparing themselves for their release into the outside world.

This module has inspired me to attempt to bring more education into the prison system. I have witnessed how beneficial it can be to those on the inside by boosting their self-esteem and confidence.
