We provide housing to young homeless people to make sure no young person sleeps rough

Story

Thank you to all who have marked our marriage by giving to Roo's Fund at DePaul UK which  helps young people who are homeless, vulnerable and disadvantaged. All the money donated on this page is going directly into "Roo’s Fund". Thanks to the generosity of our friends, we have so far raised circa £3,000  (incl tax refund and offline donations). It really does make a difference.

THANK YOU

Roo’s Fund: We rarely hear of the good work that young people do, helping people who are not in a position to help themselves. Ruth Tidy was one such young woman. There was always joy, fun and laughter when she was around and her great zest for life was shared with her family and friends. A supporter of Amnesty International, she was most concerned about the injustices to her fellow man.   Sadly in March 1998, Ruth was killed in a tragic hit and run accident at the tender age of 18. Ruth’s parents and sister decided that the money she had been saving in readiness for University should go towards helping homeless and marginalised young people. After a visit to a Depaul UK hostel and meeting with staff and residents, they soon found a fitting memorial to Ruth. They decided that Ruth savings be donated and set aside for the sole use of Depaul UK service users who are returning to education or training. ‘Roo’ was their nickname for Ruth, hence the name of the fund, and the family continue their fundraising to ensure that as many people as possible can benefit from the Fund. A lot of the young people the charity work with have had chaotic upbringings which have disrupted their education and many have left school without any qualifications. Depaul UK’s projects help them develop the skills and self-belief that they need to access education and employment and work towards independent living. Your gift which will enable the hostel residents to go out and buy suitable clothes for job interviews or books and resources for further education  courses.

We believe no young person should have to sleep rough. As well as offering accommodation, a vital part of our work is preventing young people becoming homeless in the first place. 80,000 young people experience homelessness each year. With your help we can give more of them a place to call home.
