Story
You know the drill. It's all about clicks and numbers.
So the last half marathon I ran was in 2008. Then in 2009 I got an injury - and then another - and they curtailed my running for a loooong time. And that made me sad. And I got tubby and cross. And then the company I work for supported a wonderful charity called Home Start that supported young families who needed a bit of help to thrive. And they created a team to run the Royal Parks Half Marathon.
So I decided to crack on. And join the company team. And cracking on has meant a few different things. First and obviously to raise money for Home Start. Second and less obviously to lose the tubbiness. Third and more necessarily to overcome the health injuries that have curtailed my running for the last 8 years.
12 weeks, one physio, one knee brace, one 'special shoe', one spikey massage ball, and a good number of miles later: I've lost 20 pounds (#brucewillis), I just ran ten miles in training (which is 6 miles more than I thought I'd ever run again), I've had an excellent physio stick his jabby elbow on a number of occasions deep (oh so deep) into my spasming glutes (ie arse) and I think I might just be able to run a half marathon. For the lovely people at Home Start.
Which means tons to me. But only means something to them if you can find it in your self to sponsor me. Go on, you know you want to.
Thank you.
