On Sunday 26th June I will be participating in (and hopefully completing!) one of the toughest half iron mans in Europe, the U.K. Exmoor 70.3.
I am raising money for the amazing charity Marie Curie and in memory of friends and family that have either been taken or impacted by the horrible disease that is cancer (most recently Ryan Mitchell, the brother of a good friend and an amazing father to a young son and daughter. He sadly passed away in April having been diagnosed with cancer shortly after his 35th birthday last year).
I am also raising awareness for ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalopathy/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). I have witnessed first hand the physically and mentally debilitating effects this illness has on people and seen how exceptionally difficult it is for them because research and medical help is still in its relative infancy.
My brave and resilient wife, Katherine Evans, first got ME/CFS in 2012. Unfortunately it returned at the beginning of this year just 4 months after we got married. After waiting months to see a consultant on the NHS, it was only through a friend that she was recommend to go to The Optimum Health Clinic (The OHC) in North London. The treatment she received at the clinic was very helpful in supporting her recovery and their treatment is hopefully going to be available on the NHS some time in the future, with your help:) 6 months later she is starting to show sign's of improvement (also helped by a new canine addition to the family!) but it has been extremely tough for her, at times being bed and house bound due to her fatigue, myalgia in her muscles and lack of any energy; just some of the many symptoms.
Please donate if you can, every donation makes a big difference. And if you can't, many thanks for reading this page, this is still taken as a sign of support. For those who want to know a bit more about what this event entails please see below;

A half ironman is a multi sport event commonly known as a middle distance triathlon. It will consist of a 1.9km open water swim in Wimbleball Lake, immediately followed by a 90km cycle ride in the hills of Exmoor (half ironman triathlon cycle routes tend to be flat, this one has 1400 meters of climbing the hills of Exmoor national park!). Once that is over, the final leg is a half marathon 21.1km run (again, these tend to be flat, either as part of a half ironman or on their own, this one has 300 meters of climbing!). I've been training hard for 6 months and won't be plodding around the course, I intend to return your kindness and generosity by doing the course justice and hopefully finishing in the top 15% in my age group (if I don't collapse before the finish line!).
Many thanks again.
