Gisimba Memorial Association

I'm raising money for Gisimba Memorial Association and the centre/orphanage for orphans and vulnerable children it runs in Kigali Rwanda with Aegis. They provide vital support for children and youth in their care and community.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Started by the Gisimba family - Gisimba Memorial Association has a history of caring for orphans and vulnerable children for over 25 years. When the genocide began in April 1994, they had 60 children living at the Centre. During the genocide as people fled for their lives, the Gisimba family opened their hearts and the centre to protect and hide over 400 people. They did this at great personal risk and with immense courage. They also had help and support from many, especially Carl Wilkens – the only American to stay in Rwanda during the genocide who took great strides to save and help those at Gisimba.

Gisimba Today

Gisimba Memorial Centre now has approximately 150 children and youth in its care and supports others in the community with the commitment and work of approximately 30 staff. The children's ages range from 2 to 22. Most of the older children were orphaned due to the genocide, however today many of the younger children are orphaned as a result of poverty and AIDS.

In addition to children living at Gisimba, the Association also runs a nursery school for both Gisimba and the surrounding community. The orphanage is an integral part of the community, providing support in education, healthcare and finance.

Gisimba’s Need Now

Gisimba does incredible work to support its children and youth, but it can’t do that without support. Currently it has a significant gap in funds to operate each month. We want to ensure the kids have food and the incredible staff gets paid.

Our goal is by the end of the month to help close that gap for April and to perhaps have some more to sustain even beyond.

Without your support now – the children and the organization suffer and its capacity for doing its crucial work is at risk. Supporting Gisimba helps to build the future of Rwanda by supporting children and youth and adding to the stability of an organization dedicated to bettering the lives of those most vulnerable.

WE WOULD LIKE TO RAISE £3000 and more! Please join us...

Please give whatever you can and tell your friends and collegues the story of Gisimba.

100% of all monies donated go directly to Gisimba.
