Story
Hello all – thank you for visiting my page.
In April of next year I will be taking part in a daunting 4 day leg, from London to Great Yarmouth, as part of the Barclays Round Britain 2017 voyage. We will be sailing on one of only two tall ships in the world designed and equipped to be sailed by a crew with a wide range of disabilities.
I will act as both carer and buddy to a disabled crew member chosen by the Diamond Riding Centre - we will support each other to experience and master every aspect of ship life, from setting the sails to climbing the masts and steering the ship. We will face – and overcome – our challenges, and learn together.
The Diamond Riding Centre is close to my heart as my daughter Lucy, who is 6, was born with a rare syndrome Potocki-Lupski Syndrome. This has an effect on all of Lucy's development. Lucy attends the riding centre once a week and as you can see from the pictures loves it. An experience which gives her the chance to be independent, a sense of achievement – and puts a smiles on her face! It costs more than £300,000 each year just to run the Centre and they receive no financial support from the government or local authority!
I need to raise a minimum of £800 to fund this voyage - and my employer, Barclays, will match donations on a £ for £ basis. If you sponsor me through Just Giving, donations will be quickly processed and passed to the Diamond Riding Centre. Just Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate any support that you can give - thank you.
