We fund research into spinal cord injury to find a cure for spinal injury paralysis

Story

Following on from walking the London Marathon in 2012, handcycling 400 miles  in 2013-including 24 school visits on my way  (and various other fundraising events between 2007 and now) ,I am continuing my fundraising efforts to raise vital funds for the Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation. I have been blown away by the research they are doing to find a cure for paralysis. Many of you may have seen this on the news in Oct 2014 and a world exclusive was shown on BBC Panorama. Spinal cord has been regenerated and now we need to raise funds for a clinical trial.

I am speaking at many schools throughout the year and the schools are kindly raising money for the charity, I am organising various events for the charity, collecting on race days and doing a charity ride out on a trike!

MY TARGET IS TO REACH HALF-A-MILLION BY THE END OF 2015 OR EARLY 2016 INCLUDING ALL THE FUNDRAISING I HAVE DONE SINCE MY ACCIDENT- THE MARATHON BEING THE BIGGEST EVENT RAISING £210,000.

If anyone wants to get involved with helping to raise money for this fantastic charity then please get in touch. www.claireschallenge.co.uk

I was injured in an eventing accident in 2007. I have a T4 spinal cord injury which means I am paralysed from the chest down. During my time in hospital I saw many people who had had their lives turned upside down - some who are unable to breath without the use of a ventilator. I have been very lucky to have a lot of support from family and friends helping me deal with this catastophic injury- some don't have this support.

Spinal cord injuries doesn't just mean you can't walk any more- but can also effect sensation, bowel and bladder function, circulation, temperature regulation, sexual function, bone density. It is a lot to deal with when you are injured and can lead to depression as well.

A spinal injury can happen to anyone at anytime in a split second- a cure must be found!
