We are a UK based charity working to provide eye care services to Kenya

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my SeeKenya JustGiving page.

SeeKenya exists to reduce blindness and provide specialist treatment and eye care in Kenya and is a UK charity (registered with the Charity Commission). I am one of the trustees and will be visiting Kenya in February as part of a team carrying out eye care clinics in Meru and Turkana.

We will be providing eye testing, supplying prescription glasses and eye drops for the treatment of eye disease, including trachoma (a common form of infectious blindness in children in Kenya).

SeeKenya also refers patients for further treatment or surgery if they are suffering with loss of sight from cataracts, glaucoma and other more serious eye conditions.

SeeKenya teams visit several times a year and the long term vision for is to provide all these treatments and care in a purpose built facility. During this visit to Kenya we will be planning the set up of this permanent facility. This will enable charity eye care clinics and treatments to be held year round by SeeKenya's specialists.

A large majority of Kenyans live without access to eye care. Sight problems and eye diseases affect children's ability to learn at school and adults' ability to work and earn a living for their families.

More information is available on SeeKenya's website at www.seekenya.org

All team members are self-funding all their own costs. All money raised through my JustGiving page will go directly to SeeKenya and will be used for eye care treatment, to purchase medication and specialist procedures. No funds raised by me will be used for governance, administration, travel or accomodation costs.

£3 can provide eye drops to prevent blindness in 10 children; £20 can buy glasses for 5 people; £60 can pay for a cataract operation.

Many thanks for any donations that you can give. If you would like to find out more about the work of SeeKenya and its needs, plans and strategy, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

With over 95% of Kenyans living without access to eye care, there is a desperate need for help. Working with our local church partners we are able to provide basic eye drops for the treatment of trachoma, perform cataract surgery and supply pairs of readymade glasses.
