HERE IS THE EMAIL I RECEIVED THAT WILL NOW LET YOU AL KNOW HOW THE MONIES RAISED WILL BENEFIT THOSE @ MILDMAY UK.
Dear Colin,

Following our chat on Friday, I have put together some information about the plans for a computer suite at Mildmay. We are extremely excited about this project and are delighted to hear that you would like to support this area of our work. I hope you find the below information helpful but please let me know if there is anything else you need.

Best wishes,

Kate

Mildmay’s new, purpose-built hospital in East London will offer flexible, responsive packages of holistic care, rehabilitation and support to maximise the independence of our patients and Day Service clients. This will enable people to live as independently as possible with their impairment. HIV Associated Neurological Disorder (HAND) is a debilitating disease and patients may need assistance in order to find new way of doing everyday tasks.
Many everyday tasks can be achieved online and it is important for people with HAND to be able to use modern technology readily. Today we have many devices which link up together such as your mobile phone, laptop and tablet. Also, even if people do not have a laptop they are likely to have a smart phone. This equipment is widely used and so it is important to have digital inclusion within our rehabilitation treatment.
Digital inclusion provides access to everyday tasks online such as shopping, timetable information, booking tickets, diet/menu/nutrition, reading, watching TV, playing games, pursuing interests, banking, social media/making friends, internet safety (avoiding scams, virus, etc), saving favourite sites so that useful information is close at hand, emailing, etc. In addition there are computer/internet-based mind training games which can help with rehabilitation or even psychological assessment tools which could help our client’s rehabilitation and treatment.
The new computer suite will be open to our Day Service clients and inpatients to improve computer literacy. Mildmay will provide basic and advanced training courses in both group and individual settings on a weekly and/or monthly basis. Individual training will be assessed on an individual basis, for example, if you’re physically impaired, our Occupational Therapist may assess that it would be easier and aid independence to complete your food shopping online and have it delivered rather than travelling to the shop and carrying shopping bags. Therefore people with HAND will be able to learn or relearn this skill at the hospital. In addition, some of our Day Service clients may be keen to return to work but lack some of the fundamental IT skills needed for administrative tasks. Our IT Facilitator supported by two volunteers will administer these courses within the hospital
