Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have worked with children for 38 years and am committed to young people fulfilling their potential, irrespective of background and circumstance. During my 60th year, it seems appropriate that family and friends join me in cycling 100 miles to raise money in support of Conakry Refugee School. Money raised will help provide an education for children fleeing war torn areas. In particular, funding the payment of examination fees will provide an opportunity for children to bring change to their lives and the lives of others.
Each year at CRS, students who have reached a high enough standard are entered for public exams. The fees for taking the exams are high. At the top of the school, they are roughly equivalent to one year's fees. Many students who have worked hard to achieve a high enough standard to take exams cannot afford to pay the exam fees.
Last year, FCRS paid £1400 in exam fees. In addition, we gave CRS £600 so they could print out school exam papers instead of writing them on the board and £140 to pay staff to run revision classes for pupils.
We would like to be able to do this again and ensure hard working students receive the recognition they deserve for their efforts. They will have the opportunity to move forward to higher education. This Spring, we have set ourselves the goal of raising £2500 to enable us to do this.
