Why? Being unable to see is bad enough, but visual impairment has a detrimental impact on young lives in other ways, too: 1 in 4 blind and partially sighted children under 12 are depressed; 90% of those who lose their sight in youth won’t work for more than 6 months in their lives; 2/3 of blind and partially sighted people are on the poverty line. Some might say that changing the life chances of these youngsters is too difficult –pigs might fly! That’s where we come in. This year, we’re going to make pigs fly for those out of sight and out of mind. 

How? Make Ruby the Cordwainer piggybank fly: Fill her up, pick her up, turn her over, empty her out, count her contents, and donate an equivalent sum online here. That’s one flight done – it’s so simple! To fly again simply repeat. 

It is said "to see is to believe" but we can all believe without seeing.  So please make your piggybank fly as often as possible so it can be truly said that “pigs really do fly for the blind". 

How you fill your Ruby is up to you, feed her your loose change (or even notes), hold coffee mornings or wine tastings and pass her round for donations; or you can ask for her to be placed in school or with friendly traders.
