Story
So as many of you know in January 2015 our family had some devastating news, we were told that we only had a few hours left with the man we loved so much.. My Dad.
My story In 2011 Dad was taken in for an aneurysm repair, which was successful, but in 2013 he was taken back in for an axilla bi-fem bypass, after a few complications and two more ops to clear the blockages in his legs, Dad finally came home and with the love and care from Mum, she got him back on his feet. They then continued to enjoy their life, having some amazing holidays and great times with their friends and just enjoying life. In 2015, after spending a great New Year with their oldest friends in Wales, they returned home and everything started going wrong. Dad went to the shop as he always did to get the paper, when he returned he could barely walk, which could only mean one thing...there was another blockage. Dad was admitted to hospital where we waited and waited for him to have a scan. They told us that things were complicated, but they would do the best they could to get dad right again. On Wednesday 15th January, mum and myself walked dad to theatre, little did we know that this was the beginning of the end. After a long wait with the family they told us they had done all they could do and the next 24 would be crucial. The following morning we were taken into the family room where they sat us down and told us the news we didn't want hear. It felt like someone was sitting on my chest, feeling completely helpless and totally numb we then had to face the next 48 hours watching dad slowly slip away.
My Dad was an amazing man who lived life to the full, he loved his family so much, one thing will always comfort me is knowing that he had his family with him and most of all he had my mum, the love of his life, holding his hand as left us. I'm running this marathon for two people, me and my dad. I know he would think I'm nuts, but if I can raise money to help others with vascular disease I know he'd be very proud of me. It's going to be a massive challenge for me as the furthest I have ever run in one go before is 10 miles, but with the support of my family and friends I can do this.
Training started in January through the rain, cold and dark. My runs are now getting longer and longer as we near the day. I am going to give everything I have for the memory of my dad and for our family who all miss him so much and it would be so humbling if you could donate whatever you can so that my efforts can raise money for this crucial work that the Circulation Foundation, a small charity, do to try and help so many people affected by this disease.
