Story
Hello and welcome to the Cycle4Michael donation page.
On the 19th of July 2013, a team from Ninestiles School, An Acamedy, along with three friends living in London, will be embarking on a gruelling 1000km cycle ride through Europe for Acorns Children's Hospice. This will require the team to travel 143km a day in just 7 days.
We are fundraising in memory of Michael Heekin, the younger brother of Liam and Laura who are attempting this challenge along with Alex, Joe, Charmian, Tom and their trusted driver Matt!
Michael received care at Acorns in Selly Oak, Birmingham in the months before he died on the 24th of May 2011, aged 17. The support from Acorns was so humbling. Michael's family and friends will be forever grateful for the reassurance and comfort from the committed and caring staff, excellent facilities, and the warm and peaceful environment provided by Acorns during such a difficult time.
Michael has inspired the team to do this cycling challenge and we hope to do him proud!
It costs £750 a day for Acorns to provide specialist care to a child with a life limiting condition and we are hoping to fund a day of care for each day we cycle - that's a target of £5,250.
So please donate what you can via this page.
For updates from the team on training please follow us on twitter @cycle4michael and feel free to spread the word.
Thank you for all of your support!!
Liam, Laura, Alex, Joe, Charmian, Tom and Matt
