Story

Cyril Flint Volunteers Charity offers a premium befriending service to lonely and/or isolated older members of the community. We have a strong team of volunteer befrienders and continue to recruit on an on-going basis. Our volunteers are trained and DBS checked and are then matched with older people in their local community with whom they share interests or hobbies. This often results in long-lasting friendships!

The older people who access our service say that having a befriender gives them something to look forward to, makes them feel cared about and helps lift their mood. They like having someone come to see them each week who genuinely enjoys their company. We want to help ensure everyone has a friend!

Loneliness and social isolation can have a huge impact on a person's physical and mental health and wellbeing. Studies have shown that loneliness can increase a person's chances of developing depression and dementia, as well as other illnesses.

We currently have almost 100 volunteers who are actively befriending in Greater Manchester and we want to increase this number and help more older people who are affected by social isolation and loneliness. This is why we have formed a team who are braving the a Muddy 5k Obstacle run in Manchester in July. We will be dragging, pushing and cheering each other along and getting very muddy, with the aim of raising funds to help us befriend more older people in the Greater Manchester area!

Dig deep for a great cause, every donation will help us in achieving our goal!

Thank you for your support!
