Story
As High Sheriff of Devon for a year, I feel I am in the privileged position of being able to help two smaller charities without resources, to advertise nationally, whilst helping the disadvantaged in Devon.
With help from the Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service platform vehicle, I will be abseiling down the front walls of Compton Castle on October 7th 2016 (could be delayed if strong winds on the day!) This is to raise further funds for the two charities below.
Trinity Sailing Foundation provides sail training for young people on 3 historic Brixham Trawlers. This unlocks potential, inspires and motivates them through challenge and achievement. Those with disadvantages are helped and encouraged. This group have few plans for the future, are low achievers, lack interpersonal skills and have emotional or behavioral problems. Any donations will be very gratefully received towards sponsorship of these young people on one of the offshore voyages.
The Veterans Farm-Able Project helps those from the armed forces and the emergency services who have suffered trauma related conditions. These brave people are introduced to a farm environment where they learn rural skills such as hedge laying, stone-walling and stock tasks and horticulture. A mentor supports each small group, and there is access to a support worker. Participants are encouraged towards training and employment to further their prospects work-wise and life-wise for a stable future. Any donations will be gratefully received to help support some extra experience days.
Devon Community Foundation has generously agreed to accept donations for these organisations, and distribute them.
