Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Bella in Sella Racing are cycling 1,000 miles in just 5 days to honor the bravery of one our friends who
survived breast cancer.
While on holiday with friends and family, our friend Suzanne Lefley, discovered a lump on her breast. After returning home she went to the doctors and was referred immediately to the Breast Care Unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
After tests and a biopsy, she was given the devastating news, in December 2013, that it was cancer. She was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma Grade 3. She was later also diagnosed as ER positive.
Suzanne had her operation on Christmas Eve that year to remove the lump. She had to wait an agonising two weeks over Christmas and New Year to find out whether the cancer had spread or not.
Following her operation, Suzanne then had to undergo months of chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy to increase her chances of this awful disease not returning. But throughout it all she showed great courage and strength and we are all extremely proud of her.
The great care and treatment she received from all the Doctors, Nurses and staff at the Breast Care Unit and Oncology was amazing, they and Suzanne's heroic journey has inspired Bella in Sella Racing to give something back as a way of saying thank you.
Four of my team mates Martin Lefley, Graham McMurray, Nick Hunt and Austin Aldred from Bella In Sella Racing came up with the idea of cycling "Le-Jog" which is 874 miles and is normally undertaken over a period of 9-12 days.
However, we have set ourselves the challenge to take on a gruelling 1,000 mile ride from Lands' End to John O'Groats in just 5 days, averaging 200 miles a day. We have chosen the toughest challenge we could do because we know how hard it’s been for Suzanne and her family. But no matter what level of pain we are in, and how tough we find it, it’ll be nothing compared to what cancer sufferers go through.
We are keen to raise as much money as possible for a local charity "Hint Of Pink" which provides
much needed equipment and support for the Breast Care unit at Blackpool through the hospital charity Blue Skies Hospital Fund.
They are raising money specifically at the moment for a Flexitron machine, which will allow surgeons to exam skin and tissue removed from the body in the operating theatre, reducing the waiting time between the operation and diagnosis.
Suzanne and the Bella race team will also be
holding break-out fundraising events in support of 'Hug in a Bag', Blackpool, which provides patients with breast cancer a bag of treats and information.
The charity bike ride will begin on Sunday 26th June 2016. We will be leaving Lands End at approximately 5am on the Sunday and hope to arrive at John O'Groats on the Thursday 30th June for sunset.
All donations would be greatly received for this great cause. You can also donate by texting Hint49 + £ donation value to 70070
We are separately asking for sponsorship to help pay for support car fuel and accommodation throughout our journey. Any local business willing to help will have their company name or logo printed on our team jerseys as well as being advertised on our Facebook page, Twitter and any other local charity event that we will be holding.
If any businesses or individuals can help, please email our team captain martinlefley@hotmail.co.uk.
Thank you
