Story
A team of 16 friends will be kayaking 151 miles of The River Thames over 4 days , through 6 counties to raise funds for The Danny Green Fund which is a non profit charity that was started in memory of a courageous 11 year old little boy, Danny Green, who sadly lost his life to a brain tumour in July 2012. Danny's dad and 15 of his friends are undertaking this marathon event in Danny's memory to fund raise for the charity which supports children who are suffering from Posterior Fossa Syndrome as the result of a brain tumour. PFS causes various neurological disabilities and many children lose the ability to walk, speak, balance, swallow and can become incontinent. But these disabilities can be overcome with the support that is provided by The Danny Green Fund. Danny is the inspiration for the charity to enhance the quality of life for children during their most challenging of times by funding therapies not provided by the local authority.
There is no quick fix for these children, and it can take months of physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and horse riding therapy for these children to achieve their aim of walking independently. The charity currently supports 13 children on a weekly basis at a cost of approximately £1,000 a week.
The 16 friends who have no previous kayak experience would like to raise £5,000 to help fund the support for these children. The Danny Green is the only charity specifically set up to support children who are suffering from PFS.
The therapies that the charity provides are making a real difference to the lives of the children they support by helping to increase their independence and self esteem and helping them to achieve their goal of walking independently.
Every penny raised by the team will help children suffering from brain tumours
