Story
For many years us Rosenberg boys have lived with two afflictions. The first is that we have very selfish parents. So selfish in fact that if we try to raise money by running, cycling or trekking, we will just be copying what they’ve done for years! Being a Rosenberg child means coming up with a slightly more unique fundraising activity...
Our second affliction, thanks (almost solely) to our father, is that we're very hairy! Despite girlfriends of past and present telling us constantly that it is both manly and attractive, we have decided that now is the time for change and we had the idea that if we were to rid ourselves of our bodily hair - we might as well try to raise some money whilst doing it!
Therefore, for charity, we are doing a FULL BODY WAX (from the neck down - we are currently undecided as to how FAR we go).
We will be doing this in our home (surrounded by “cheering” and “supportive” friends who obviously won’t be bringing their cameras) so once the pain is over, we can retreat to our beds and hope and pray that a nice cuppa is delivered our way.
We are raising funds for two very important charities Save A Child's Heart (SACH) (www.saveachildsheart.org) and Jewish Care (www.jewishcare.org). There is a close connection to both of these charities and the money raised will be split equally.
As many of you may know, Robert underwent open heart surgery some time ago. In fact, the 10 year anniversary of his operation is on 12th March 2012 and so it seems appropriate to do some fund-raising. We have chosen the closest date possible to this 10 year anniversary as a celebration of health and an appreciation for the health care that is so readily available to so many of us.
SACH is a charity that brings children to Israel from countries who do not have adequate medical facilities and gives them life-saving heart surgeries. It has treated over 2,700 children over the last 15 years, many of which undergoing the exact same operation that Robert had almost 10 years ago. Of all the children who are helped:
· 50% are from the Palestinian Authority, Jordan, Iraq and Morocco
· 40% are from Africa
· 10% are from around the world
Jewish Care provides various forms of care and support to the Jewish Community in London and the South East and needs additional support during this economically difficult year to help all those in the Community and Day Centres and Care Homes that it provides for charity.
We may not be cycling, trekking or mountain climbing and our 'challenge' does not necessarily require an intense training regime, but we do believe the couple of hours or so spent on the waxing table (again, surrounded by non-photo/video taking friends and family) is worth raising a significant amount of money for.
We will attach picture for your perusal, which highlights the amount of wax required to complete this challenge.
Many thanks in advance,
Daniel and Robert Rosenberg
