Story

Hi, my name is Danny Watson and I am a 3rd year dental student at the University of  Manchester.

I am an Ex-Military Royal Army Physical Training Corps instructor who also completed the arduous All Arms Commando Course. I love training and have done many fitness challenges in the past. My passion for training meant that I found CrossFit and have been training with this methodology since 2009. I have the privileged role of working for CrossFit HQ and training the next generation of CrossFit Level 1 Trainers.

In 2008 Chris Gibbs and I did a 24 hours challenge where we did a combination of 7 chin up and 7 dips every minute for 24 hours between us - 10080 reps of each. Every since then I have always wondered if I could do the solo 24 hour pull up challenge.

The attempt at the 7306 reps current record (7620 reps has just been completed by an Australian but needs to be confirmed by Guniness) will take place on the 10-11 December 2016 at CrossFit 3D in Manchester.

I have chosen to raise money for the Cleft Lip and Palate Association (CLAPA) as it is something close to my heart as a Dental student and future Dentist.

CLAPA’s main functions are:

Working to improve cleft care in the UK by representing the needs of people affected by cleft.
Creating a UK-wide ‘cleft community’ of people with and affected by the condition to provide mutual support.
Providing specialist bottles and teats for babies with a cleft to parents, carers and health professionals.
Training volunteer Parent and Peer Contacts to provide one-on-one support to others in need.
Developing support for children and young people with a cleft at school and in social settings through a range of activities such as confidence-building Residential Weekends.
Encouraging and supporting research into the causes and treatment of cleft lip and palate.
Producing and distributing a range of unique information leaflets
Raising awareness of cleft amongst the general public and fundraising in the community.

CLAPA aims to improve the quality of life for all those born with a cleft and their families by involving our membership, supporting parents and patients, and improving the standards of care throughout all of the UK.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Any donation or support is greatly appreciated.
