Story
I was privileged to take part in the Jersey White Collar Boxing event back in 2013. It was an amazing experience training with the BoxinBusiness team and my fellow fighters and boxing in front of 600 people. I made some friends for life and was proud to have raised money for 2 great causes – Le Tournoi and Teenage Cancer Trust. However, I have (literally) been dining out on my victory in 2013 ever since and piled on more than 3 stone in weight! So, when I heard that the team at BoxinBusiness were organising a special “Don’t Call It A Comeback” event for their White Collar alumni, I signed up hoping that the fear factor of getting knocked out and humiliated in public might encourage me to spend more time in the gym than the bakery.
Fortunately, Allan and Ben Murray at BoxinBusiness have accepted my application (in the hope that I shift plenty of lard before fight night), and so I will be one of the privileged few taking part in their comeback event on Saturday 8 October 2016 at the Royal Jersey Showground in Trinity. It will be another amazing night, I’m sure.
I weighed in at a whopping 95.8 kilos before the training camp started on 2 August 2016 and have 10 weeks to change from Rocky Marshmallow to Rocky Marciano. I’ll try and update you all on my progress in the lead up to the big night.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. My selected charity this year will be Philip’s Footprints (http://www.philipsfootprints.org). They do fantastic work across the Channel Islands supporting bereaved parents and promoting safer pregnancies for all. Their “Baby Bean Appeal” is currently helping to fundraise for 5 wireless fetal monitors which allow mums a greater freedom of movement during labour, especially those with high-risk pregnancies. It is hoped this freedom will greatly increase the chance of a normal birth and a positive birthing experience.
