Story
I have now decided on my main challenge to celebrate reaching 50 years of age. This is to take part in Operation Frankton (Re-enacting the cockleshell Heroes mission from WW11). This was a raid on the German occupied French port of Bordeaux during the Second World War. Six canoes were taken to the Gironde estuary by submarine from where they paddled by night to Bordeaux. They then attacked the docked cargo ships with limpet mines and made their escape overland to Spain.
The Mission
· To make our way to the Medoc peninsula in France.
· From there make our way to a French Airfield where we will receive safety instructions before boarding a plane to Tandem jump into the start point for the expedition. (Subject to approval by French Air Traffic Control).
· Kayak the 60 miles to Bordeaux over the next 5 days reaching Bordeaux on D-Day. This will be in two man kayaks partnered with Injured Servicemen.
· We will be camping over the 5 days at places as close to the original mission as possible.
· Finish the mission in St Genes de Blaye where the original mission ended.
Why
To raise money for the Pilgrim Bandits Charity which helps injured servicemen. The Pilgrim Bandits was established by a small group of Special Forces veterans in 2007 with the sole aim of using our unique training and experience to help and inspire wounded soldiers to live life to the full.
