Story
In memory of David Robert Beattie who tragically died as the result of an accident, on Sgurr Nan Each on Saturday, 20th April, 2013.
David was a devoted family man who is survived by his wife Lindsay, his two adult children Jenna and Kevin, his parents David and Elizabeth and siblings Karen and Morgyn.
David was reported missing after failing to return to his Aberdeen home from a hillwalking trip in the Fannichs area, south of Ullapool on Saturday 20th April 2013. The light was insufficient to launch a full search on Saturday evening and searchers, from the Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team (DMRT), RAF Leuchars, Stornoway Coastguard, the Search and Rescue Dog Association and Police Scotland, were forced to wait until Sunday to begin the full search. Members from the Dundonnell MRT spent the night on the hill to be available for immediate assistance.
Dave’s family wish to raise funds for the Dundonnell MRT as an expression of thanks in all their efforts to rescue David.
David was born in Aberdeen, the eldest of three, he grew up in Skene Street in the city centre and went to Skene Street Primary School and Aberdeen Grammar. David left school at 16 and trained as an apprentice plumber with Barratt Homes. David worked offshore for a short time after qualifying, but by then he and Lindsay, his childhood sweetheart, had started a family and he was anxious not to miss a minute of seeing Jenna and son Kevin growing up. David started his own business - Dave Beattie Plumbing - and built up a reputation as an excellent tradesman. Kevin followed him into the family firm and was named plumbing apprentice of the year under his dad's direction - the second of Mr Beattie's apprentices to be awarded the accolade.
David’s love of the mountains stemmed from childhood holidays to Deeside, where the family stayed in a cottage near Braemar.
David’s other great passion was music. He loved the Beatles and played guitar from a young age and in his 40s, he played in a number of rock bands until he formed the Sensational Swampsnakes with a number of his friends. The Swampsnakes played gigs around Aberdeen and shire with David in his trademark bandana. Many of these gigs were to raise money for charities such as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. David also completed in the Three Peak Challenge in 2012 as part of his charity work and succeeded in reaching the top of one of the peaks first.
David was a big character, with a great sense of humour, liked by everyone and full of life. He will be sorely missed by his family and many other people.
