Story
We are raising money to fund a youth mission trip to work with Asha in Jeevan Nagar slum, Delhi. The money will be used to fund the cost of the work while we are out there. (paint and other decorating materials)
Asha is an Indian Charity that helps tackle all the issues that can keep slum dwellers trapped in poverty. The programs that Asha runs help the slum residents gain access to healthcare, financial services and education. This works makes it possible for them to make long term, positive changes to their lives. The link to their Website is: http://asha-india.org/
The group that is going is from the St. Stephens Church (Twickenham) older youth group. We are aiming to take 6 or 7 16-18 year olds supported by a group of youth leaders into the slums around Delhi to decorate one of the community centres run by Asha as well as do some youth work with the local kids who lives in the slum.
The trip will be a great opportunity to take a small group of the youth out to Delhi so that they can see and experience how people less fortunate than themselves live. I feel that the trip will really help this group develop as individuals and will open their hearts and minds to issues that otherwise they would not experience.Below are a links to a couple of youtube videos that explain what Asha do in the slums and how their work affects the lives of the people who live there. The second link is to a video that was made from the Church's last trip out to Delhi and shows the type of work that we will be doing on this trip.
