We help families affected by substances to break free from the cycle of addiction

Story

It is with deep sadness that I have been informed by the family of David Armstrong that David  died very suddenly following a massive brain bleed and he passed away a few days ago.

David was an energetic trustee who was very supportive of DrugFAM and worked so hard in the short time he was with us.

David had a commercial background in the consumer products and pharmaceutical industries. When he was working in Australia back in 2000, he led the introduction of a new treatment option for heroin dependence. His interactions with policymakers, the treatment community and patients inspired him to return to UK in 2007 and build an international organisation dedicated to improving the quality of care for patients suffering from addiction.

This is how David met Elizabeth and learned of DrugFAM’ s unique work supporting families affected by a loved one’s drug use or addiction. When he was at Reckitt Benckiser he invited members of DrugFAM to speak at their conference on ‘Inspiring Change’ towards addiction in Morocco in 2012

He volunteered and joined the Board of Trustees in September 2013 and played an active role in driving forward the charity’s work. He was full of life, had a great sense of humour and believed passionately in our charity.

David enjoyed skiing, scuba diving and mountain biking.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, staff and volunteers we extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to his wife and children and wider family. We will all miss him terribly.

It was nice that we last saw him happy and laughing at our recent fundraiser with his wife on 13th September this year. He was true gentleman.

David's family have very generously offered to donate any funds raised in memory of David to DrugFAM, for which we are very grateful.
