Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Myself, Jason and Gemma are holding a Charity Golf Day and Charity Dinner on Friday 3rd October to raise funds for RoadPeace in memory of Dean.  Sadly, not everyone is able to attend but some have asked if they can still make a donation to the charity in Dean’s memory, so I have set up this page.  I will update after the event once we know how much we have raised.  Thank you for your support, every penny counts!

MY STORY

Dean’s life ended tragically on 12th September 2009.

My life changed forever on 12th September 2009.  You don’t expect to never see your child again or to have to bury your child.  To lose Dean in such a violent way is something extremely hard to come to terms with, I don’t think I ever will.  I think about Dean every day, he is constantly in my thoughts.

Dean was a ray of sunshine in my life. He was kind and caring and we had a very strong bond.  No-one can know how it feels to lose a child unless it happens to them and to know that his death was completely avoidable only makes it worse.  His death has left me with heartache, nothing or no-one can ever repair this damage.  I often re-live the moment the police came knocking at my door at 3.00am on Saturday 12th September.

I am devastated for Dean as he will never have the chance to grow, marry, have children or travel – his future was taken from him.  I am devastated that I will never get to have Christmas or birthdays with him again.  He was my son and my friend and my heart breaks just a little bit more each day when I think about never being able to hold him in my arms again, to tell him I love him and for him to kiss me on the cheek each night before he goes to bed and say to me “love you mum”.

I wanted to let you know why I have chosen RoadPeace as my charity of choice.  RoadPeace work tirelessly campaigning for justice for victims killed on our roads and offer families bereavement counselling.  They also promote the remember me roadside plaques to mark where a loved one was tragically killed – a poignant reminder to all who pass by.

Thank you for reading my story.  Remember, every penny counts and no amount is too small.

With warmest regards

Valerie Walker
