FPSU is fundraising to help fight the devastating effects of filarial diseases, responsible for permanent disability to people in some of the world’s poorest communities.

Story

FPSU(Filarial Programme Support Unit) works with 12 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia working toward the elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis (LF).

LF is a worm infection transmitted by mosquitoes.  It can develop into a chronic disease with swollen limbs (lymphoedema), skin changes (elephantiasis) and swollen genitals (hydrocele) in men.

We are fundraising to support the ongoing work of FPSU, which includes a variety of activities from Mass Drug Administration to Disability Management including surgery, which can have a huge impact on patients enabling them to get work and reintegrate into their communities.

Your donation will have real and lasting impact, for example in Zambia it costs 7 pence to treat one person with medication to stop LF and on average it cost £30 for a Hydrocele Surgery, which is life-changing for the recipient.  You will also be contributing toward the elimination of this disease which we believe can be achieved through continued work with affected countries.
