Story
In May 2016 I will be returning to St Trizah school, in Nakuru, Kenya, along with a group of volunteers. It is the fifth year that Derby County Community Trust have teamed up with African Adventures to make the humanitarian journey to one of the poorest suburbs of Nakuru.
While out in Nakuru this year we built a new classroom at the St Trizah new school site. It has just been confirmed that the children from the old St Trizah school will move over to their new school on 4th January 2016. It was a truly amazing experience being involved with a project which is going to make such a difference the lives of so many wonderful children.
The children have very little but what they do have is their faith, love and the ability to make you feel like you are the most important person in their world. They ask for simple things in life, things we often take for granted, just wanting us to sit with them, hold their hands and give them a cuddle. Their smiles can't fail to light up your day and it is heartbreaking to see just how little they have, many of them are orphans and live at the school, but despite this they are constantly smiling and just appreciate every single thing that is given to them and done for them.
The money raised will go towards funding the trip, a proportion goes directly to the schools in Kenya, where the volunteers will be working, and also part of the money raised will go towards Derby County Community Trust's Disability Program which helps fund a program for children and adults with physical and mental disabilities throughout Derbyshire.
