Story
We would like to thank you so much for supporting us take part in the Hackney Half Marathon on behalf of SPEAR.
Your support will provide substantial support to those experiencing and recovering from homelessness in London.
SPEAR was founded in 1987 by Penny Wade when two people she knew were found dead by the River Thames due to lack of housing.
SPEAR was created in the ongoing belief that no one should have to die through lack of housing.
However, we believe that gaining accommodation is not the final solution, but merely the starting point in the path to independent living.
Unless we address the causes of becoming a rough sleeper and the psychological and physical damage life on the streets inflicts our clients will endure the cycle of homelessness and end on the streets.
Without community support SPEAR's Skills & Development Team would not be able to helping clients build self-confidence, life and employability skills. SPEAR's Homeless Healthlink Team ensure that all obstacles to gaining access to the NHS service are entitled to and SPEAR's Peer Mentoring programme gives their clients a voice, not just in how they deliver the service but are able to use their experiences to help those starting the journey to recovery.
With numbers of rough sleepers increasing, your help in delivering this vital support programme to the most vulnerable in our community is sincerely appreciated.
Every penny raised will make a real difference in transforming lives.
