Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Firstly, I know you're all wondering what a 'Kilele' is - it's the Swahili word for the summit of a mountain and it's where I want to get to on this challenge.

Although I've climbed many mountains in the past, I've never considered raising money or sought sponsorship, but this time I want to do just that. There are so many excellent projects being run by the Volunteer Centre in Sutton that need additional funding in the current difficult economic client and I want to help. So I'm climbing Mt. Meru and Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in October. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa (and is also the highest free-standing mountain in the world!); Meru is the second highest mountain in Tanzania and the fifth highest in Africa (and will be my 'warm-up' before the big one!).

Examples of some of the incredible projects that you will be helping me to support are;

MAPS (Mentoring And Peer Support) makes a huge difference to over 300 young people a year by providing mentors from the local community. This ensures that the young people reach their full potential by providing them with a great role model and inspirational guidance to achieve their goals in life.

LEAP (Learning, Experience & Action Programme) is a project helping young people gain the training and experience they need to find a job. Each young person on the scheme will be assigned a buddy to help them with goal setting, life choices and decision making. Additionally we will also work with local training providers and voluntary organisations to ensure that the young people are equipped with the right skills for their preferred employment choice.

Respect is an inter-generational project that brings high school pupils together with the older generations; to learn more about each other's views, experiences and outlooks. It attempts to break down the barriers between generations by the use of fun and social activities.
