Dickie, Joey & Hattie's WAVE for the Millenium Walk, 15 June 2017
We provide specialist support services to victims of domestic and sexual violence.

Story

Dickie and Joey are sisters. Hattie is cockertriever, also known as The Golden Dog. Dickie is CEO of Staffordshire Women's Aid

We 3 girls want to raise money for Staffordshire Women's Aid (SWA) by walking The Staffordshire Way for the Milleninium over 3 days, 13th - 15th July 2015. The walk stretches across Staffordshire from West to East, and is around 40 miles - quite a trek! (Hattie probably runs 3 miles for every 1 we walk, so she is the real hero here).

We are calling it the WAVE for the Millennium because that stands for the Walk Against Violence Event. By supporting SWA, we are walking against Violence against Women and Children. We also like the idea of a WAVE, and hope on our first day of walking, some of our supporters will turn up in Stafford on 13th when we arrive there on our route, so we can show a WAVE of support for the charity's cause and get some publicity.

We are walking as part of the Fund it Forward campaign which is raising money to equip and furnish the new refuge at Staffordshire Women's Aid. It is amazing that at a time when refuges are in crisis nationally. It is brand new, purpose built, and set to open this October. It will accommodate 12 families in self-contained flats, and include communal areas for group work and teenagers, and a fabulous playroom and outdoor play area. With 2 women being killed each week in the UK by Domestic Violence, this refuge is a vital resource because refuges save lives.

Our target for fundraising is £500. We really hope you will want to support us and Staffordshire Women's Aid, and we will keep posting pics of our training.

About the charity

Staffordshire Women's Aid is a charitable and voluntary organisation that has been providing services for women and children living with, fleeing or recovering from the impact of domestic and sexual violence since 1976. We aim to support and empower women and children towards safer, more independent lives, free from violence and abuse. To achieve our charitable objectives, we provide the following services, delivered by a team of trained, specialist staff and volunteers across Staffordshire: Our Services include: • 24 Hour Helpline • Safe Refuge Accommodation • Domestic Violence Community Outreach Service • Children and Young People’s Support Service • SURVIVE Sexual Violence Service While our work is situated within the violence against women and girls agenda, we also offer services to male victims of abuse which are appropriately provided in safe, separate venues. Nearly 40 years on, we remain a grass roots, user-led organisation, placing at the heart of our work the views of the women and children we work with. We are extremely proud to have been awarded the Women’s Aid Federation of England National Quality Standard.
