Story
When three of Didcot Power Station's iconic towers came down early on Sunday 27 July 2014, an estimated 2,500 local people visited Wittenham Clumps for one of the best views around. Earth Trust, the environmental charity that maintains the Clumps and the unique landscape around them, generously provided refreshments and all the facilities needed for the event, helping to create a memorable atmosphere.
Sadly, however, the cost of providing those facilities - the car parking stewards, the portable toilets, etc. - cost more than the amount raised in donations on the night, and the charity ended up £2,200 out of pocket.
Thankfully, RWE npower has now donated £3,000 to Earth Trust which, along with a £1,000 contribution from South Oxfordshire District Council, means that all Earth Trust's costs are now covered.
Whilst it's wonderful that the charity no longer has to face a shortfall, they still deserve our support! Earth Trust does a great job. Not only do they take care of Wittenham Clumps and preserve their unspoilt environment, they also work to remind all of us of the wonderful natural landscape we live in. They do this through environmental education in local schools (which children enjoy so much they don't even realise they're being taught!), and running workshops and events for the whole community.
Even if you didn't visit Wittenham Clumps to see the towers come down, PLEASE help me to support the amazing work of Earth Trust. They're part of our community.
