Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.

So, in the spirit of doing some fundraising for a cause which is particularly close to my heart, I have decided to set myself THE challenge of challenges and am running the Virgin London Marathon 2016.

Why am I running the London Marathon for Scottish
Huntington’s……

Firstly, let me start by saying, I hate running.

Do not underestimate my use of the word hate, I really mean it. It is my least favorite thing to do and running a marathon is about the worst possible thing I feel I could put myself through. I’m doing it and have set myself this goal, in the hope that people will dig deep and raise money for what is such a worthy charity and importantly, something very close to my own heart.

To elaborate, I have witnessed the impact Huntington’s can
have on a family. Firstly with the sufferers themselves but over and above that, the impact on the supporters and relations lives, who in themselves, may suffer in time. I’ve seen this first hand through individuals that whilst we are not related, I very much consider as an extension of my own family. Individuals I’ve known my whole life and who have supported me through good times and bad, to such a significant degree that I am compelled and utterly consumed to step up and do something in return.

I’ve witnessed the pain, suffering, sadness, loss and
heartbreak that Huntington’s can cause. I can’t help but feel distress and helplessness in observing the hard and painful journey of those suffering and supporting, knowing there is little I can offer to help. The impact is harrowing and something I would give anything to change or cure. It is heart breaking to see people you love trying to process and cope with this every single day and yet what is most amazing is that with all this pain, I’ve also witnessed solidarity, love, compassion, selflessness and patience among those I know who are impacted.

So why am I running the London Marathon for Scottish Huntington’s? It is for them I’ll train. It is for them I’ll complete this marathon. It is for them I’ll do my best to raise funds that hopefully go some way to helping those who need ongoing support. I might hate running and a marathon might be a big task but is nothing in comparison to managing a life coping with Huntington’s disease and is the very least I can do to show my own support.

I won't be alone on the day. My oldest friend Julie-Ann Marshall is running it with me and together we'll get over the line. I'm packing the plasters and she's got the playlist so we're all set and training has already started!

Thank you for reading this and for your support. I know that by raising money for this association, those who are managing a life suffering with, or supporting someone with Huntington's,  are already eternally grateful for anything you can spare.

Follow HeadNorth Consulting's facebook page for training updates & pictures and I'll update afterwards on how it goes on the day.

Thank You Very Much In Advance

Sincerely, Dionne Winter.
