Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are asking for donations to be made to The Hepatitis C Trust in memory of Don Miller, our Dad.
Our Dad had Hepatitis C (HCV) for many years and fought against the symptoms it presented with strength and determination. We never found out where or how he became infected, although there were a few theories, it's kind of irrelevant really.
Dad was always keen for people to learn from his condition. Always pleased to have student doctors study him and he took part in a trial where the doctors were testing his ascites (the fluid in his tummy) to find out more about the bacteria that grows here. I know that he visited The Hepatitis C Trust website on many an occasion for information, and so did we.
Sadly Dad fell ill on the very same day he was due to begin treatment for his Hepatitis C. It was a new treatment, in trial phase, and he was so pleased to be given the opportunity - not only to be rid of HCV himself but to help others with the virus too. He never got to start the treatment as his symptoms became severe and he was admitted to hospital. He was thrown another lifeline though, in the form of assessment for a liver transplant, however sadly had a fall in hospital and this was too much for him to cope with. Dad lost his fight on the 20th August, surrounded by his close family.
Dad was a determined man, who had many ups and downs throughout his life. He most definitely packed a lot in! He spoke his mind, made mistakes and jumped into anything he did with gusto. He was also kind, giving and generous. Cantankerous at times, yet easy going and laid back at others.
Part hippy, part sailor, part computer-whizz, part social-worker, part business man... and so much more. Son, Dad, brother, uncle, cousin, Bampi, nephew, friend, adversary - so many things to so many people.
We feel Dad would like people to donate to this charity, to know that he was helping people, even now he is gone. However much you can give will help so many people - not enough is known abut this virus. Visit the Hepatitis C Trust website to find out more about them and HCV.
