Story
Hi All,
In February 2012 we are planning to run a project with the people who live on Saharawi refugee camps in Algeria and we need your support to make this project happen.
For the past five months, we have been running drama and movement therapy sessions with the children at a refugee camp in Lavrio, Greece. Building on this experience, the money raised will allow this two-person-team made up of a movement practitioner and a dramatherapist to join a larger team of drama and movement therapists on a research project taking place at the Saharawi refugee camps in Algeria.
The research project will look at how to apply drama and movement therapy within three specific institutions at the refugee camps; the landmine victims centre, the prison and the special needs schools. Only through contextualizing the organization of these three institutions along with the Saharawi culture can we through Olive Branch Theatre and the charity Sandblast return in the future to deliver training and therapeutic projects which can be effective.
The Saharawi Refugees are the forgotten people of the Western Sahara who have been living in exile in the harsh Algerian desert since 1975. For more information about the Saharawi plight please watch the attached video of the theatre projects run by Olive Branch Theatre and check out Sandblast's website.
