Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In May 2015 I will be cycling nearly 1,500km with over 15,000m of climbing in 11 days in memory of Chris Lane who lost his hard fought battle with bile duct cancer (a form of liver cancer).
Having been something of an arm chair sports enthusiast for the last 20 years, I took on this challenge in March 2013 and bought a bike. Cycling from London to Barcelona is a terrifying prospect for someone as unfit as me, so to achieve this from a 'standing start' with 2 years of preparation will be a huge challenge. Therefore I will be very grateful for any donation you can make to help encourage me during the long training days and for the ride itself.
I will be raising money for the European Centre of Excellence at the Institute of Liver Studies, Kings College Hospital to help raise awareness of liver disease and provide funding for vital research and clinical trials into areas such as the treatment of liver failure, cancer and liver transplantation. It will also help to fund tests for developing better personalised treatment of liver disease and identifying new 'biomarkers' which can lead to faster diagnosis of liver cancer and better management of transplanted patients.
